Shadow Therapy ~ Shadow Work: What is it?

Shadow therapy ~ shadow work is a form of holistic psychotherapy.

It is based on the depth psychology insights of Swiss psychiatrist Carl Gustav Jung. He introduced the term ‘shadow’ to describe the unconscious aspects of our personality that regularly have a negative influence on our lives.

Shadow work is therefore a path of personal and spiritual development through the experience of awareness and consciousness – with the aim of reconnecting body, soul and spirit to form a harmonious whole.

In shadow therapy, YOU open the doors yourself, thus the access to your very own solutions. Salvation already lies within you, waiting to be consciously recognised and thereby actively brought into your life.

I accompany you into deep relaxation through meditation combined with conscious breathing and selected background music.

In this state of deep relaxation, the door to your unconscious personality facets and soul parts opens. You experience and recognise these parts of yourself ~ similar to dreaming ~ through images in front of your inner eyes.

These are your soul images revealing themselves to you. Due to their symbolic nature, they easily show you the way to your true self, the truth slumbering in your deepest core.

“The will to be
what one truly is
is the opposite of despair.”

(Sören Kierkegaard)

How the shadow affects our lives

The truth is therefore also aspects of yourself that lie in the shadow (the unconscious).

These may be socially undesirable personality/soul traits that you also view negatively. Or, conversely, socially accepted traits that you consider positively in general but are not aware of having them at all.

Nevertheless, your unconscious aspects control your feelings, perceptions, thoughts and actions every day and thus have a significant influence on your quality of life.

This means that you cannot actively live out your “positive” soul aspects that lie in the shadow because you are not even aware of these qualities. In other words, you are not exploiting your wonderful potential.

The “negative” parts of your soul that you have pushed into the shadow, on the other hand, come back into your life with vehemence. Repression does not mean letting go in the sense of a solution.

It is so understandable that we humans try to suppress what frightens us and what we do not like (about ourselves). Or to repress it. In any case, to push it far away from us.

However, the shadow that this creates gains such influence that it repeatedly stands in our way.
It appears in the form of seemingly external obstacles that make you experience your life as difficult, stressful, unhealthy, etc.

“If an inner situation is not made conscious,
it appears externally as fate.”

(C. G. Jung)

Shadow Therapy ~ Shadow Work as an unconditional ‘Yes’ to yourself

The shadow makes our lives difficult until we befriend it with confidence.

Shadow work means bringing the unconscious parts of our soul back into consciousness. Accepting them in the sense of a non-judgmental ‘YES, that’s how I am too!’.

It is an unconditional ‘yes’ to yourself.

‘Yes’ to the tone of white as well as to the tone of black and also to the numerous shades in the colourful bouquet of all their grey tones.

This is a way in which you can learn to forgive yourself and ultimately reconcile with yourself. You gain a deep connection with yourself in appreciation.

Energy that you previously used unconsciously to keep the lid on your shadow is then freely available to you. As enormous strength and good energy for consciously shaping a fulfilled life.

Uncovering your own shadow and accepting it with compassion leads you out of suffering and towards inner freedom and emotional balance.

Recognising who you are also allows you to be more compassionate, understanding and calm with your fellow human beings. It becomes easier to let others be themselves and to forgive them, as well as to ask for forgiveness yourself.

This deep insight into yourself, into your soul, plants the seed for the wonderful flower of love. Love for yourself and thus for your fellow human beings.

“Without love, the soul cannot live.
It must love something,
it is created from love …”

(Katharina von Siena)

How shadows are lifted in Shadow Therapy ~ Shadow Work

Your greatest potential and treasures are hidden in the shadow. It is worthwhile to consciously look at these treasures and bring them to light.
Take courage ~ step out of your shadow.

In shadow therapy, you will gradually recognise all aspects of your multifaceted self and being. This recognition comes through access to your soul images, which is made possible by deep relaxation.

Everyone can ‘create images’.

And images have great symbolism, which you experience on a relaxed level and understand deeply from within yourself in this experience.

A picture says more than a thousand words.

Images are the means of expression, indeed the universal language of the soul. A language of the soul that every human being ~ regardless of their cultural and geographical origin on Earth ~ can understand.

To complete the process and if necessary, I am happy to assist you with the interpretation. This will make you an expert on your soul images. You will clearly recognise the patterns that run through your life as obstacles. Awareness also contains the seed for release, solution and overcoming.

I am constantly touched and fascinated by how wonderfully soul is able to express itself.

Your soul reveals YOUR very personal, unique images to you on your therapeutic journey. At the end of the therapeutic journey, you will have new insights into each life topic ~ linked to the appropriate picture story that you have experienced emotionally.

Jumping over your shadow ~ Holistic transformation through Shadow Therapy & Shadow Work

Shadow therapy ~ Shadow work is a holistic form of psychotherapy.

Reconnecting with your heart and soul ~ your own deep truth ~ that is what the deep relaxation allows you to experience.

Through deep relaxation, you come into contact with all levels of your being (body, soul and spirit) in a new way. It is a different way from the usual thinking and talking.

Soul issues that have been weighing on your physical level in order to make themselves felt can be resolved, thereby relieving the physical level (psychosomatics).

Experiencing and exploring the endless expanses of your soul’s imagery creates a new spiritual consciousness.

In this way, the new experience lived during the therapy journey can bring about a profound holistic transformation.

It is your SELF-experienced truth through which you can discover all the courage, confidence, curious joy, strength and love WITHIN YOURSELF. Everything you need to finally want to live truthfully and set out on your journey.

It is recommended to experience shadow therapy ~ shadow work as intensive short-term psychotherapy over two to four weeks.

Let me advise you in a free orientation consultation.

I look forward to meeting you.

“Confronting a person with their shadow means
showing them their light as well …
They know that darkness and light make up the world …
Those, who perceive both – their shadow and their light,
see themselves from two sides,
and thus find their centre.”

(C. G. Jung)
